Valeriya Chalmers, Candidate for Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

As a therapist, I believe that our issues arise not from ourselves, but from our interactions, that we should build on our strengths rather than fixate on our problems, and that therapy should be brief, but its effects long lasting.

As an immigrant to this country, I see how social and personal expectations that seem “natural” and unchangeable are actually patterns that we’ve internalized. This means that we should be more empathetic and forgiving of ourselves when we don’t live up to those standards, but that we should also never forget that positive change is possible.

I help individuals who struggle with trauma, anxiety and depression as well as those who just want to strengthen their sense of self-worth and realize their full potential. I also work with couples to assist them in navigating the often complicated issues of trust, intimacy and sexuality.

During our first few sessions, we will work together to create a treatment plan tailored to your specific needs. I want therapy to be a safe space where you can create a lasting positive change both for yourself and for your relationships by unlocking strengths that we all have, but often overlook.

Fee: $100 per session
